MILLENNIUM BCP FOUNDATION

30 YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO SOCIETY

Created by Banco Comercial Português, Fundação Millennium bcp (Millennium bcp Foundation) was born as an expression of the Bank’s social commitment to the development of the communities in which it operates.

The Bank’s growing intervention in various areas of social and cultural life, together with the increase in requests received, made it clear that there was a need for a specialised, autonomous structure with its own resources, capable of planning and executing a sustained social intervention strategy. It was in this context that the Foundation was created, endowed with administrative autonomy and financial capacity to promote a programme of activities aligned with socially responsible action.

Recognised as an institution of public utility by order of the Prime Minister in 1994, a status that was reconfirmed in 2019, the Millennium bcp Foundation has, over the course of three decades, developed a consistent and diversified action, with an impact on multiple areas of Portuguese society.

Throughout its 30 years of activity, the Foundation has supported countless cultural and heritage initiatives – including museum projects, heritage restoration and activities in the areas of architecture, fine arts, music, dance and theatre. It has also promoted publishing and literary projects, as well as initiatives in the field of knowledge and social solidarity, with special attention to children, people with disabilities and the fight against poverty.

Three decades after its creation, Fundação Millennium bcp maintains its purpose: to make an active and responsible contribution to the cultural and social development of Portugal.
